Bhakti Yoga helps an individual adopt a path of worship to gain control over emotional instabilities. In the modern world, we emphasize our emotions over our intellect, so this applies to it well as it helps control emotions.
However, Bhakti Yoga does require a faith in a higher power. It does not have to be God, but any belief in a higher existence works. Therefore, if you are a strict atheist or do not have this belief, Bhakti Yoga is not for you.
Bhakti Yoga uses love and emotions to calm the mind. Practitioners have to:
- Surrender their “ego” and follow the divine
- See divinity in all and all in the divine
- Love all living creatures
